~Joey goes back (momentarily) to BERKELEY!~

OK, I'm no enemy of the Hare Krishna movement, especially when the Beatles sang about it so beautifully...As a matter of fact, I remember the time.......

(Vision gets wavy and blurred, as we fade to:)

...I was playing the blues for change on the streets of Berkeley (corner of Haste and Telegraph, if you must know!), with a cowboy hat, an old one eyed Dog named MISTY, and the Blues. We all lived in 'PEOPLE'S PARK' of 60's revolution fame, and once in a while, someone would leave and go become a Hare Krishna.

No. NOT ME. But I did eat the food , and it made me want to FAST.

... But, here they came, all singing and banging on things, like you see in airports and they're all going...

"Krishna-Hare-Hare.... Ha- de- Hare-Hare..." and so on...

There was this guy I knew, dancing by with them, and so I listened for a few seconds, learned the music, and turned up the amplifier...

(I still have the 'AMPLIFIED SOUND WITHOUT A PERMIT' ticket somewhere)

...You should have seen how confused they got!! For a minute, a few of 'em thought their God had kicked in on a Stratocaster or something!!

...Well anyway, you can see I'm not AGAINST them, or whatever, but-
......................................................................................................................................................
Escondido, California-
...The City Council agreed to issue a permit to these guys allowing them to CLEAR 23 ACRES of ENDANGERED COASTAL SAGE SCRUB!!
Why? To build an elaborate TEMPLE.
I'm sorry, but isn't this
#1 a violation of the COASTAL ACT
#2 really stupid
#3 people once again paving over Gods creation to make room for the 'Real God' like over at that CRISCO CATHEDRAL'..
(see 'STAINED GLASS EGO PARLOR' joey sept '99)...??!! Does Shirley (State Coastal Commissioner) Detloff know about this?? SHE'S GONNA!!!!!!!!! 'nuff said -jr
......................................................................................................................................................

Jeeze, I haven't been that annoyed since....well....Well, since Wednesday night at the joint meeting of the Orange County Water District and the Orange County Sewage District...

(note: OCSD Board members ALICE JEMPSA-Los Al and PATTY CAMBELL-Seal Bch were so sweet!! Said Cambell. "Joey, I get the biggest kick out of your e-mails!!" She forewarded the last one to Jempsa!)-jr

Anyway, at the meeting, someone shouted....

"Are there any members of the public who would like to speak?"

And the lady goes...

"Yes, just one, sir".

OK, who the heck do you THINK it was!!!??? Of COURSE!!!

So, I go up and speak my mind, and the guy (IRV PICKLER, Orange County Water District Director and Chair) stops me halfway through and says:

"I will have to ask you to stay with the agenda items"

And I say to ol' PICKLE-PUSS:

"Excuse me sir, but the dumping of bleach, the use of reverse osmosis, and the Ground Water Replenishment system are indeed all related, and I will tie it all together shortly, if you will follow the law (Brown Act) and not interrupt me during my public comment period".
I then went on just as I had begun, didn't let him ruffle my feathers at all. You should have seen the cute little smirk on a certain coastal city mayors face, too!! Worth about a million dollars to me!!

Later that same life...

My dog and I were checking out the Wintersburg channel for ideas to save Bolsa Chica, oh, and...yeah, for muddy old TENNIS BALLS (doggie GOLD!), and we came across an old eyeglass case, among other stuff...

It's about 20 years old, full of barnacles and still has the label, so if anyone knows Mr. and Mrs. Victor Ayala, 13741 Springdale st., please tell them to call joey!
