"Construction grading on Hellman ranch began in the second week of July. Early on the first day of grading the construction supervisor notified the 2 archaeologists on site that there would be no grading in any culturally sensitive areas that day and they could leave early, so they did. "By the time the Native American monitor got to the site...he found that the supervisor had deceived the archaeologists and grading was actually being done in a culturally sensitive area (CA-ORA-264). In the ground that was still left intact, he saw that burials had been partially cut up and destroyed by the machines. "On Sept. 10, 2002, two Native American monitors were threatened with being run over by tractors when they stopped the construction workers from digging next to burials that are still in the ground. That same day these two monitors were laid off. That was one day after the Vice President for Operations of John Laing Homes told the Most Likely Descendant ["MLD", Chief Anthony Morales of the Gabrieleno/Tongva Tribal Council in this case] that they would not dig in that area. Now Joanie Madrid, Project Manager from John Laing Homes, has been lying to the public in the media about the incident on the hill, claiming [it] never occurred. "This is the wasy in which our ancestors have continued to be treated on this site, by a land owner who has repeatedly and purposely lied to, deceived and dis-respected the Coastal Commission, the city of Seal Beach, the Archaeological firm, the Native American Monitors and the [MLD}..." Please call and write the following, "...let them know...that we intend to be a stand for our ancestors and we are not going to go away, ever": ----------------------------- Attn.
