OMTS02-71 reports that: "The secondary treatment ramp-up is nearly on schedule. The goal is to have all available facilities online, operable, and optimized in January 2003". "As of November 21, 2002, increasing the level of treatment has reduced the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) from 51 mg/l to 37 mg/l and has reduced the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) from 72 mg/l to 59 mg/l" The standards for full secondary treatment are 30 mg/l TSS and 30 mg/l BOD respectively, so progress is being made. OMTS02-72 is the Microfiltration Demonstration Project-Phase 1 Final Report. Very interesting. Also, a report on last month's Board of Directors meeting: The Board of Directors unanimously passed the letter on to EPA requesting an ocean discharge permit without the waiver. The only change to the previously drafted letter was a paragraph on a reopener provision relating to the GWRS (Groundwater Replenishment System) Hooray, and thanks especially to outgoing Board member Pat McGuigan of Santa Ana who previously was very much for the waiver, but who made her last vote on the OCSD to be a legacy vote for her grandchildren, and she voted for a clean ocean. There's no turning back now. Jan Vandersloot (949) 548-6326 Back to T.O.C. 2
