Dear OOG:

See forwarded email from Mark Massara of the Sierra Club. Debbie Cook, Huntington Beach City Councilmember and Mayor of Hungtington Beach last year, will be a great member of the Coastal Commission, having worked hard against the waiver and for protection of coastal resources like Bolsa Chica. Please fax off a letter and/or email today to Sen. Burton (sample letter below) urging him to apoint Debbie Cook to the Coastal Commission.

Thanks.

COASTAL ALERT

Coastal Commissioner Shirley Dettloff is termed out and will soon be replaceed by Senator Burton. Senator Burton has always given us the best votes on the Commission but we cannot take this appointment for granted. Given the events of last week, it is necessary that Shirley's replacement be strong on coastal protection.

Please take the time to email or fax letters of support for Debbie Cook to the Senator, attn: Nettie Sablehaus

Dear Senator Burton,

I would like to thank you for all your efforts on behalf of coastal protection. We appreciate your support for the independence of the commission and, most importantly, your appointment of individuals who are committed to the protection of the coast.

Given the recent events at the Coastal Commission it is more important than ever to appoint someone who would be a strong voice for coastal protection. I believe that Debbie Cook is just such a person. She has proven, with her battle to save Bolsa Chica, that she has a passion for our coast. Debbie has also grown, with her election to the City Council of Huntington Beach, to understand the role of government and how to work within the system to achieve a positive result. This is the ideal combination of interests and talents for the job.

I urge you to keep a representative from Orange County on the Commission and to appoint Debbie Cook
