they are asleep, horrid chemicals are released into the air...and their
lungs. There is a way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and shift
some energy usage to clean solar power to charge Electric cars. This fact
faces big money and long odds as the Oil lobby tries to kill the clean
electric vehicle, dooming another generation to oil-wars, oil-spills,
refinery emissions, car and diesel exhaust, urban runoff of the debris
and other ills. (http://DrivingTheFuture.com)
There will be "CLEAN AIR--SUPPORT ZEV" rallies and EV test rides
starting this Sunday, Feb. 9, in Santa Monica. Next week, there will be
rallies in Beverly Hills and in Orange County--your chance to write a
letter in support of clean air to the Air Resources Board, which is under
attack by the oil industry.

EV drivers, and others, invite 100 friends, neighbors and others to a
ZEV action group to produce a mass mailing urging state officials to require
auto makers to produced cleaner cars. In practice, the only real difference
in our dependence on foreign oil is made by electric mass transit and
electric commuter cars. It's only the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate that
has forced auto makers to grudgingly offer EVs. Many EV drivers have lived
oil-free since 1997, when they were first offered; ARB will be asked to
keep EVs available for those who want them. Test drive an EV starting
at 4PM, letter writing at 5PM. for more info, call the Scotts at (310)

The auto makers and oil interests have succeeded in making the ZEV regulations
so complicated that they are basically unworkable. Those who wish to make
the "sacrifice" that Oilies say driving an EV requires should
be allowed to do so! Think of the millions and billions they are spending
to push "hybrids" and fuel cells, and how many EVs that would
put on the roads! Not to mention the money they are spending on the Iraq
oil war. Please email the following:

RE: SUPPORT ZEV MANDATE
Dear California Air Resources Board:
Please support the ZEV mandate, which has been a success at creating real
electric vehicles in daily use despite auto and oil industry reluctance.
Please simplify the ZEV mandate to let one manufacturer offer an EV (such
as the Toyota RAV4-EV) for sale to those who want to buy it. This should
be the only requirement of the mandate. To assist bad air regions, let
the other manufacturers subsidize the purchase so that lower-income people
can drive clean cars. One standard, and one program, will lower costs.
The EVs must be available by catalog order from all other dealers to those
willing to pay the price.
Sincerely,
