1. CARB fails to stand up to the oil and auto monopoly
2. Putiidhem wins court victory, election battle loom
3. EL CAMINO POW WOW this weekend, Apr. 5-6

------------------------------------------------------------
1. http://DrivingTheFuture.com CARB FAILS

California Air Resources Board is charged with reducing air pollution. In effect, this puts them in an adversarial relation to the oil industry, which is the major source of dirty air -- via refineries, diesels, port, cars, trucks and leaking gasoline, etc. So it's a tough job. Yet a former CARB, under more conservative Republican leadership, stood up to the oil industry. That CARB, in 1990, demanded that what might seem like the
mindless nabobs of the "Auto Manufacturers Alliance" produce "ZERO EMISSION VEHICLES". Naturally, the oil and auto industries pushed back with unrelenting pressure, money and lawsuits. Now, under supposedly "liberal" Democrats, CARB is surrendering, giving up, bailing out of that 13-year quest.

Thanks to that ZEV mandate, it has been proven that Battery Powered EVs ("BEV") are *possible*. They do work, and will suffice for the daily commute of up to 120 miles per day. How do I know this? Like many others who found out about BEV, I have lived virtually oil free since 1997. I have found out about the animosity of what I call "the Oilies", who fight us at every turn, demanding that we return the cars, refusing to issue them, sabotaging them via regulations and otherwise. For more than 3 years, despite these obstacles, I commuted to work each day easily in an EV, to Century City, downtown L.A., Santa Ana, mid wilshire, Eagle Rock. Without problems!

So it is possible for us to live oil free, as the old CARB pointed out. Maybe you don't want to, maybe it will take time to get used to it. YOU don't have to drive a BEV. Not everyone has to give up gas cars; all we are asking is to be ABLE TO BUY THE CARS ON THE FREE MARKET!

Yet CARB has now rolled over and yelled "ouch!" to the oil and auto industries. They are poised to eliminate the ZEV mandate, instead, proposing to "wait for fuel cells". But fuel cell vehicles are problematic, even if they are feasible, it would be 15 years
or more before practical. And, if they can be created, great, they could be added to BEV, which are not incompatible with the technology. They both run on electric motors, for example.

So what can we do? Roll over, too, and suck up on foreign oil and the bush-cheney oil import scam for another generation? Accept the bad air, and move away if we are rich enough, dooming less fortunate children to massive nightime emissions from the
17 refineries that ring upwind L.A.?

This odious child abuse occurs late at night, when the little ones are sleeping. The noxious, poisonous fumes, that we speed by on the freeway, glad to "pass" the bad air area, creep into their rooms, choking them with evil chemicals. They cannot escape, they depend on society to keep the air clean.

Then the next day, our failing bureaucrats are "surprised" to find that kids are plagued with ASTHMA, BRONCHITIS, and other lung troubles. Their answer? Give the babies an inhaler, to suck steroid chemicals to soothe the pain from their torn lungs!

On Mar. 27-28, an outrageous meeting of CARB tried to push through the death of ZEV, and the myth of "hybrids" and "wait for fuel cells". Some members of CARB did not go along with the evil plot, so they postponed the meeting until next month, Apr. 24. Over 80 EV drivers, and those whose EV was taken away, traveled up to 400 miles, forced to stay over, only to have to battle to be able to exercise their Bagley-Keene Act (Brown Act) rights to speak their piece. Yet auto makers, who got paid to attend, who were prejudiced, got all the time they wanted to schmooze and gossip with the Board. In one case, at least, an EV driver was deprived of his right to speak because the Ford guy droned on and he had to leave to catch his plane.

CALL DR. ALAN LLOYD, chair of the fake AIR RESOURCES BOARD, and give him a piece of your mind. How dare they take the Taxpayer money, and fail to protect the air!

If you are one of those brave souls who mailed a comment to the Air Resources Board last week, you got a fatuous message from them telling you that you were "too late" to comment! Perhaps what is needed is a march on ARB headquarters, and a picket line of clean air ZEV drivers, to show them that they cannot duck this one. Tell Lloyd you DEMAND to be heard, the bad air is here, all the time, not only when ARB wants to listen.

2. PUTIIDHEM WINS COURT VICTORY!
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/orange/la-me-jserra29mar29,1,1958200.story
Juaneno Band of Mission Indians/Acjachemen Nation wins court challenge to San Juan Capistrano catholic high school on top of sacred mother village Putiidhem. "Judge Voids San Juan Capistrano School Action "Ruling says City Council violated state law when it amended the plan for Junipero Serra High. By Stanley Allison "Both sides in a dispute over building part of a Roman Catholic high school campus on an ancient American Indian burial ground claimed victory Friday after a judge voided the San Juan Capistrano City Council's approval of the plan...."

This is just exactly what we, and the lawyer retained by the Juanenos, tried to tell them would happen. But they bulled along, on the wing-ding theory of one of Mr. Tim Busch's over-paid staff. Sometimes I think that it's bad advice, that is the enemy, the developers are just sold a bill of goods at $200 per hour (or more).

Now, there might be an initiative, and this will take door-to-door and other informational solicitiation. There is every reason to believe that this vote, if held, would be WON, because SJC people do NOT like thousands of car trips for a regional high school that desecrates a sacred site!
