RE: YAF TRASHING HUNTINGTON BEACH

Hi,

The "Young Americans for Freedom", perhaps no longer "Young", among other things, replies:

"...Good points [about Bush, Cheney and Rohrabacher ducking draft]...but I'll bet you had nothing to say back in 1992 about Bill Clinton and Al Gore and their 'loathing the military'...."

Wasn't it one of the American Revolution folks, who said beware of standing armies? A freedom loving people really must be somewhat wary of armies, that's the resaon for Art. 1, Sect. 8.12. "Brutus", writing in 1788, replies to YAF: http://press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/documents/a1_8_12s21.html "...Standing armies are dangerous to the liberties of a people..." and, as stated on http://www.logicsouth.com/~lcoble/militia/thegreat.txt John Hancock, in defense of

Citizen Militias, may have replied to YAF: "Standing armies have no place on American soil..." Granted, times have changed from the days of British mercenaries, no doubt. But the point here is, that "loathing for the military" is rooted in the Founders, and very American. As American as Southern Apple Pie, and the Militia movement. Clinton was right, and YAF wrong. YAF continues:

"...you're a Bolsa Chica fanatic. I'll bet you live in Huntington Harbor or on the bluffs above Bolsa Chica..."

Plato distinguishes between forms of government: rule of the one, few and many. Democracy, the rule of the many, degrades into what might be called "mob democracy" when everyone pulls for their own self interest, instead of realizing that our interests are common. Where ever we live, Bolsa Chica belongs to us, just as the mountains, valleys, and other majestic treasures are given to us as stewards. This doctrine goes way back: we can buy land, but only if we use it as permitted by the sovereign power -- in our case, the American People. The waters of the U.S. -- that's US. That's purchase "in fee simple" (a fiefdom is a medieval grant), which can be regulated (by zoning and other laws) and environmental regulations, and revoked by "eminent domain". Hence, "this land is your land..." no matter where you happen to live. Bolsa Chica is a treasure for all.

Some have wondered if the real meaning of "YAF" was "Young Americans for Fascism".

Judge for yourself:
