COME TO COUNCIL MEETING, EVEN IF AFTER 6:00 P.M. Support Putiidhem!

Hi,

Good story on Putiidhem decision tonight in OCRegister (link to the story is on http://Putiidhem.org) by Peter Larsen (plarsen@ocregister.com). Good info on the $dollar$ "contributions" by school backers to Council members (it's kind of hard to vote against those bankrolling your campaign!).

Council member Soto claims that the big issue is "education", and that schools are always a good thing. However, in this case, the issue is NOT education. This is NOT a local public school, it is located on the freeway because students will be drawn from all over -- HB, Irvine, Coto, and so on.

JSERRA school would NOT draw exclusively, perhaps not even many, from San Juan Capistrano.

JSERRA projected tuition of $8500 per student will draw from ALL OVER O.C. for the "special curriculuum" which reputedly stresses agressive nationalism -- a sad irony, if true, on top of the graves of its victims.

JSERRA may be a tricky, tax-savvy NON/FOR PROFIT, not a "catholic school". JSERRA is organized around the http://buschfirm.com which makes much of its money, apparently, shielding large estates by tax dodges and non-profit techniques, perhaps such as the JSERRA school -- A "boutique law firm" that specializes in "estate planning" and maintains a Nevada office.

The issue is DESECRATION, not EDUCATION!

It is terribly ironic that JSERRA plans its for-profit, nationalistic school on the very site where many of the victims of the genocide visited on our local Native Americans are in fact buried.

The main bands of Juanenos are united around the idea that the site must be preserved from desecration -- digging foundations, swimming pool, gym and other buildings. Moreover, once these buildings went in, future excavation would be easier,
for the desecrators. All Tim Busch can answer is that a statue would be erected, and there would be a "curriculum" on the Juanenos. That's like many developments -- "deer run" -- the only deer are on the name of the tract!

"The San Juan Capistrano city council has scheduled a special meeting for May 19, 2003-6:00 p.m. to vote on the JSerra proposal. The city council must decide whether
to approve a general plan change to allow the high school to go forward with its sports complex plan or put the issue to the voters. JSerra has yet to call the Tribal Office and hear our voices! Meet at the city hall parking lot at 5:00 p.m. with signs. LET THE VOTERS DECIDE!!!!! "...Sincerely, Andrea Cole, Member at Large Damien Shilo, Chairman" FOR MORE INFO: http://Juaneno.com
