Dear OOG:

Last Tuesday night, the Poseidon desalination plant EIR, Conditional Use Permit, and Coastal Development Permit were continued to another Huntington Beach Planning Commission meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 3, at 7 PM. Meeting is at City Council Chambers, HB City Hall, 2000 Main Street, Huntington Beach.

See Agenda at: HB Planning Commission Agenda 6-3-03

OOG still has concerns about the AES outfall and its possible contribution to elevated beach bacterial pollution at 9N at the end of Magnolia Street, along with what impacts the Poseidon operations has on the outfall.

Existing conditions involving the AES outfall, including the issues of its impact on marine life including entrainment and impingement of the marine life, are as yet unknown. A study, the HBGS entrainment and impingement study are still in process, about halfway through.

The Planning Commission should not pass the EIR until this study is finished.

In addition, the bacterial situation within the pipes should be further examined. There is a discharge vault that has some 20,000 MPN bacteria within it.

The implications of Poseidon operations on these bacterial levels should be clarified before approval of the EIR, because these bacterial levels may very well reach the beach.

Hope to see you tomorrow night, even if you are there simply to observe the process.

Thanks.
