billing bereft drivers for "scratches" on the EV1, even though they may junk all of them. When asked if we can buy the supposedly "damaged" car, they cruelly and curtly sneer "NO!". Will we be doomed by Gray Davis to yet another generation of being tied by that invisible chain around our neck to the Gasoline Pump, the visible sign of the massive power of big oil? of the Saturn dealers is really sad, because they are the better part
of GM. Unlike the myth, GM is NOT a monolithic, unified force; more likely,
it's a camp of about 200 warring tribes, some of them trying to make clean
cars, some of them So the real enemy here is the Hummer dealers. When picketing Hummer, it was pathetic. A whole herd of over-stuffed, waddling salesmen (no women) came out to remonstrate. "Why are you here?" they squeaked. Were these really macho hummer men, or hummers? I reminded them that GM was confiscating my, and other EV1 clean cars. The HUMMERS (mummers?) squeaked that "no one wanted them". Well, I replied, why are we here then? Just let the EV1 live, and we will go away. The HUMMERS then squeaked "why don't you go over and picket Saturn, they are GM too" and the image of war paint, secret codicils, and backroom deals flashed into our minds. This is how one part of the GM behemoth worries another part! A passer-by stated that he had driven an EV1, once, but had been discouraged by the sales people and the high price, and was thinking of making his own by converting an unexciting dino-car. I pointed out that we want ANYONE in the free market to go up to a dealer, order an EV, and have it delivered (maybe even 2 weeks later) so that they, too, can LIVE OIL FREE!! Surprisingly, it seemed that a majority of passing drivers knew about the issue, and were mildly to wildly SUPPORTIVE. This may seem like a losing battle, fighting the feckless Gov. Davis, GM and the Oilies, but the timing is right -- people are fed up with the Bushies and their lies, and fed up with Bush's phony "patriotism" that is being used by the scoundrels to cover up their crimes, and which is ruining the USA's formerly shining reputation --- maybe for decades to come.
