Dear OOG:

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 22, 7 PM, the Huntington Beach Planning Commission will meet to discuss the CUP (Conditional Use Permit) for the Poseidon desalination proposal. Interestingly, the EIR is also being brought up for reconsideration.

See Agenda: HB Planning Commission Agenda 7-22-03

I recommend attending this meeting and supporting the EIR reconsideration in Public Comments. Obviously, the EIR needs more work in relationship to existing conditions at AES, impacts to these conditions, mitigations, impacts to water supply, water chemistry, location, need, growth inducing impacts, and what studies from the California Energy Commission and the Impingement and Entrainment studies at AES might shortly reveal about AES, and therefore Poseidon, because Poseidon concentrates the AES discharge.

I don't know the exact reasons why the EIR is being called back for reconsideration, but recall that passage of the EIR was by a 4-3 vote. It only takes 1 member of the Planning Commission to switch his vote and the EIR would be sent back.

I think the public deserves a chance to look at a more complete EIR than what was passed last meeting.

Hopefully, we'll see you there, 7 PM, HB City Hall, 2000 Main Street, HB.

Thanks.
