Letter Number 1: June 16, 2004 Members
of the Board of Directors By Fax: 805-995-3673 Re: Please upgrade sewage treatment facilities and forego your 301(h) waiver application Dear Members of the Board of Directors of the Cayucos Sanitary District: I understand you are meeting with the City Council of the City of Morro Bay tomorrow, June 17, 2004, to discuss possible upgrades to your sewage treatment facilities. I am writing in support of your efforts to upgrade your sewage treatment facilities so that you will not need to apply for a 301(h) waiver from full secondary treatment of sewage before discharge into the ocean. I am very supportive of a clean ocean for ecologic and public health considerations. Our ocean needs help. Discharge of inadequately treated sewage into the ocean is a practice of the past that needs to stop. Nearly all other sewage treatment plants in California are ending the 301(h) waiver, including the former largest waiver holder, the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD). To its everlasting credit, the Board of Directors of OCSD voted to give up its waiver two years ago, and we encourage you to do the same. I hope that you will vote to upgrade your facilities at your June 17 meeting and help us achieve a clean ocean for us and our future generations. Thank you. Sincerely, Name Letter Number 2: June 16, 2004 Members
